Inorganic chemistry and catalysis

The Lummis Lab
ABOUT US
We are an inorganic chemistry research lab based at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Our interests lie in the fundamental structure, bonding and reactivity of s-, p-, and d-block compounds, and their real-world applications. In particular, we look to use intuitive ligand design to tailor the reactivity of compounds based on earth-abundant, non-toxic elements.
In this lab, we believe that diversity and a culture of mutual respect are the seeds of innovation. We recognize that a diversity of ethnicity, lived experiences, and ideas contribute not only to what we do, but how we do it. We will always promote an environment that celebrates our differences, and we recognize that while a commitment to diversity is a good start, we must strive towards true equity and inclusivity in order to truly be our best.
We believe in the rights of each other to live, love and worship free from judgement, bullying, and harassment. We welcome all enthusiastic and motivated scientists to join our pursuit of new structure, bonding and reactivity in inorganic chemistry regardless of (and not limited to) an individual's race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, or physical ability. While previous experience in synthetic inorganic chemistry will be beneficial if you join our lab, it is not a prerequisite and we welcome everybody regardless of career stage.
A copy of the lab compact, outlining lab expectations, culture, policy and support mechanisms can be found here.
